Where in the World is One Artsy Mama?

Hey, friends! Long time no “see”! I bet some of you have started wondering where in the world I am…I’ve gone from having a new blog post up every weekday to posting once a week. So what’s up? Well, in case you missed the original announcement a few months ago,

I’m writing a book!

And it’s for you! I am incredibly excited about it and can’t wait to get it in your hands, but writing a real physical book is no joke, y’all! It has taken every second of my spare time {that is, when I’m not making t-shirts for the Etsy shop!} and I have been crazy busy. The good news is that my manuscript is due September 30, so after that date, things should get back to almost-normal around here.

In the meantime, here are some details for you…

The Title: Hand Lettering for Relaxation: An Interactive Workbook for Creating Beautiful Lettered Art

The Publisher: Page Street Publishing Company

The Format: A Workbook with 52 tutorials, prompts, and space for you to create art

Each chapter/workshop will teach you a new technique, font, or embellishment to add to your hand lettering. It is designed to walk you through from the very beginning, with step by step instructions and illustrations. The workshops have themes that tie in to each design you’ll be creating as well as an inspirational paragraph about that theme. At the end of each chapter is a page with a hand drawn border that you can color and a blank center where you can create your design. Ideally, you can tackle one workshop each week and the book will walk you through a year long lettering journey.

The Date: Spring 2017 {hopefully April}

It’s been an incredible journey, and I still can’t believe this is for real. For each workshop, I’ve been busy writing an introduction, an inspirational paragraph, and a clear tutorial, as well as drawing step by step images. I’ve also been doodling like crazy to create those “doodle pages” for you to use in creating your own designs. Once the images are created, each one has to be individually scanned at 1200 dpi to be sent to the publisher, which has taken a good bit of time as well.

I’ve done work on the book in lseveral places, including at home {with some help from Flynn kitty}, Starbucks, a hotel, an airplane, and the place we vacationed in Myrtle Beach. There have been a few setbacks too, including the fact that my original scanner wasn’t capable of producing the resolution we needed, the fact that I accidentally scanned a bunch of images in the wrong format, and the fact that the dimensions of the book changed at the last minute, so now I get to re-draw all the doodle pages and the cover! But, in the long run, it’s so worth all the bumps in the road…can you imagine seeing this at Michaels or Barnes and Noble? {Here’s hoping they buy some copies!}

I am really pleased with how it’s all coming together and I can’t wait for you to see the finished product! Stay tuned for updates, and in the meantime, thanks for understanding that the blog posts are a little fewer and farther between until October! Wish me strong coffee and a steady hand…
