Captain Underpants Movie Night and Underpants Art

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Snyder’s-Lance, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #Pop4Captain https://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

This summer, one of Little Crafter’s favorite things was when he and I went on a mama-son date to see Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. He has read the entire Captain Underpants  series multiple times and absolutely loves the books, so he was beyond excited to see his favorite characters in a film. As we left the theater, he made it very clear that he wanted to own a copy the moment the movie was released on DVD. Luckily for him, it’s almost time! The Captain Underpants DVD is will be available in Walmart stores 9/12, and you can even pre-order a copy!

Captain Underpants Movie Night

As soon as we have ours, we’re going to celebrate with a special family movie night to enjoy it together. If you haven’t seen it yet, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is a fun film that’s filled with jokes, humor, and a lot of heart. With the incredible voice talents of Kevin Hart (George), Ed Helms (Captain Underpants/Mr. Krupp), and more, it explores the friendship of two boys who share a love of writing and creativity.

Since George and Harold love creating and drawing their comics so much, I thought it would be fun to incorporate a quick craft project into our family movie night too, along with some tasty snacks. Here’s a simple tutorial you can use to help your own little movie viewers create a cartoon-tastic piece of Underpants Canvas Art.

You’ll need:

a blank canvas {ours was 11 x 14}
a black permanent marker
chalk markers or paint pens in a variety of colors
a pencil and eraser {optional}

Step 1: Draw two horizontal lines across your canvas a little above the center.

This will be the waistband of the underpants. You can certainly sketch in pencil first, then go over your lines with a black permanent marker.

Step 2: Draw two sets of curving lines in each of the bottom corners.

These are the leg holes of the underpants. Don’t worry about getting your lines perfectly even or straight; the idea is that this is a hand drawn comic just like what George and Harold create!

Step 3: Add two sets of lines, each one connecting the waistband to a leg hole.

You’ll also want to add some short dashed lines to the waistband as an extra little detail to make them really look like the Captain Underpants version!

Step 4: Write Captain Underpants’ favorite phrase, “Tra-la-laa,” in chalk marker above the underpants.

My chalk markers were pretty bright, so I traced around the letters with a black marker to really make them pop!

Step 5: Draw a cartoon bubble around the words.

To do this, I make a series of “v” shapes, alternating small then large, then small, then large until I get all the way around the phrase.

Step 6: Color in all the areas except for the underpants!

I loved the effect of the chalk markers for this; they’re bright and really give that handmade feel, just like George and Harold might have done the project themselves. If you’d rather use paint, though, that works too. I recommend paint markers over paint and a brush, because it’ll be less mess to worry about during movie night.

In less than 15 minutes, you can have a masterpiece like this one! Seriously, how fun is this?! What kiddo wouldn’t think it’s hilarious and awesome to make an underpants themed art project?

Captain Underpants Craft Project

And of course, no movie night is complete without snacks! Popcorn is just a given when it comes to movie watching, right? We had popcorn in the theater, so Little Crafter naturally wants it when we recreate the experience at home. We always have at least one value size 10-pack of Pop Secret Movie Theater Butter from Walmart in the pantry (at the moment we have two), because it’s got an unbeatable buttery taste with better ingredients that I can feel good about sharing with my family.

I also picked up a variety pack of Lance sandwich crackers from Walmart for us to enjoy together. Did you know Lance has been making these for over 100 years? They’ve got delicious real peanut butter or cheese in between two crispy baked crackers and come in a variety of flavors, so there’s something for everyone. Plus, they contain up to 5 grams of protein and no high fructose corn syrup, which makes them a great snacking choice for our movie night adventure. We are so ready to enjoy this movie together with our snacks and canvas art craft project!

Are you ready to have a movie night of your own? You can’t beat a film with A+ Reviews and outrageous humor, right? The Captain Underpants DVD is will be available in Walmart stores 9/12! Be sure to reserve your copy now by pre-ordering today! While supplies last. Tra-la-laaaaaa!
