YOU’LL NEED:

Unfinished Wood Round {mine is from Target}

FolkArt Home Decor Chalk matte acrylic paint in Rich Black

Paintbrush

Pencil & Eraser

Fine Tip White Chalk Marker or Paint Marker

Step 1: Paint the top of your wood round with the black chalk paint.

One coat should be plenty to give you great coverage. Let the paint dry completely.

Step 2: Sketch a draft of your design, then lightly pencil it onto the painted wood.

I used a ruler to sketch horizontal lines across my wood slice to help keep my lettering straight. Then, I penciled in the positions of my words. Try using a variety of font sizes and styles to make your menu visually interesting.

Step 3: Trace over your pencil marks with a white chalk or paint pen.

You’ll want the finest tip pen you can find. I wish mine had been slightly finer so that I could have added more detail, but I still like the way it turned out. Not sure which kind of pen to use? Check out my guide to paint and chalk pens here!

Step 4: Erase any pencil lines.

My favorite eraser is a Tombow Mono Eraser, because it erases totally and cleanly from all kinds of surfaces.

Once your pencil marks are gone, the menu board is ready to display!
