If you’ve been keeping up with One Artsy Mama this week, you’ll know that Little Crafter and I already made a fun, personal Father’s Day gift for hubby.
We’re both bursting at the seams to give it to him!! We didn’t want him to even know we had made anything at all, and LC did a great job not spilling the beans. But the night after we made it, hubby was changing LC into his pj’s and we had this conversation:
Dan: “Honey? What’s this white stuff on his toenails?”
Me: {shoot!} “Uh, it might be paint.”
Dan: “Well, is it?”
Me: {trying to think fast} “um, I really can’t say.”
Dan: “What?”
Me: “ok, it’s definitely white paint.”
Dan: “Why is it on his feet?”
Me: “um, I really can’t say.”
Dan: “You don’t know why there’s white paint on his feet?”
Me: “I do. But I can’t tell you.”
Dan: {finally getting it} “Ohhhhh. What did you make me with white paint and feet?”
Me: {sigh} “You’ll just have to wait and see.”
Oy. He’s on to us. Anyway, I thought we were good to go until I saw this post by Tonia at The Gunnysack. She took a photo of her hubby and son walking away from the camera and did some fancy photo-editing on it, including adding this poem.
Daddy’s Footsteps
author unknown
“Walk a Little slower, Daddy.” said a little child so small.
I’m following in your footsteps and I don’t want to fall.
Sometimes your steps are very fast, sometimes they’re hard to see;
So walk a little slower Daddy, for you are leading me.
Someday when I’m all grown up, you’re what I want to be.
Then I will have a little child who’ll want to follow me.
And I would want to lead just right, and know that I was true;
So, walk a little slower, Daddy, for I must follow you!

sniff, sniff…I love it. Photo editing is another of my creative hobbies, so of course I had to give it a go. I found a cute shot that I took last month {yes, we made sure no trains were coming first!} and did my own edit:
I use Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2. To make my edits, I carefully outlined the boys, inverted the selection and did a soft focus. Then, I added the text. Pretty simple. You can also add a black & white effect to everything that isn’t your hubby/son so that they stand out as the only colored section of the photo, like Tonia did.

I love it on hers, and I tried that effect on mine, but found that it actually took away from the photo I had chosen when the tracks and other background weren’t in color. Every pic is different! Tonia has a great tutorial here for how to do this using picnik.com.
Now, I think we’re ready for Father’s Day! I’m excited for a day to celebrate my own wonderful dad and my fantastic hubby. Yesterday, we actually got to take a date day{!} all to ourselves, and it was just plain wonderful.
But of course we’re looking forward to spending Sunday with Little Crafter and having a “Mama Daddy LC Day”…who wouldn’t want this little goofball around? 🙂
Have a great day!
