Hey, friends! Raise your hand if you have young kids or grandkids. If that’s you, then you are probably all too familiar with the feelings that come with most of the children’s music out there these days. You know, that feeling that wells up inside you as you’re listening to it that makes you want to scream, hit random objects, or hurl yourself out of a moving vehicle. 😉 But despair no more, I have wonderful news for you. There’s a band called Milkshake that’s about to change everything.
Milkshake began in 2002, when Lisa Matthews and Mikel Gehl, members of the Indie Rock group Love Riot were inspired by the birth of Lisa’s daughter and Mikel’s son to create a new kind of kids’ music. Five CD’s and a Grammy Nomination later, Milkshake is known around the country for their energetic pop-rock style that kids as well as their parents enjoy!
Honest.
I speak from experience.
The Artsy Family got our introduction to Milkshake two years ago when we won tickets to one of their concerts at a local arts center. We had never heard any of their music, but Little Crafter, who was two at the time fell. in. love. He was captivated by every song and every movement they made as they danced around the stage. After the show, he got to meet the stars and he asked me to buy him a CD so that he could listen to the songs “every day and every night.” Since then, we’ve attended another concert and purchased three other CD’s, one of which we listened to almost all the way to Myrtle Beach and back.
In fact, Little Crafter told me once that Lisa was on his “Top 5” list of people he wanted to marry {along with me, my grandmother, and Miss Verna from Starbucks}…
Needless to say, LC was thrilled {and so was I} when we heard that Milkshake just released a new CD! This one is aptly titled “Got A Minute” and contains 33 fun tracks that are about a minute long. Some are a little longer than others, but all of them are less than two and a half minutes. They’re quick little tunes that are easy to sing along to and keep the interest of even the littlest listeners.
Little Crafter loves it, and he loves that he can listen to a whole song between home and the grocery store, which is a very short trip.
The other thing that makes Milkshake extra special for our family is that they’re a local group, based in Baltimore, MD. {I bet they’re even Ravens fans like us!} There’s actually a cute song called “Baltimore” on this latest album that we especially enjoy.
If you happen to be local too, Milkshake is having a Hometown CD Release Party at Rams Head Live in Baltimore! It’s a 2 PM on April 14, and it sounds like a ton of fun for the whole family. There will be cartoons, videos, face painting, a balloon artist, crafts, treats, and of course, a live concert! The best part is that in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Milkshake is honored to donate a portion of the proceeds from this event to the Baltimore Child Abuse Center. So, if you’re in the area, come on out and party with the band to celebrate this great new CD!
And, whether you’re local or not, Milkshake is offering you a chance to win a copy of their new CD “Got a Minute”! Rafflecopter will walk you through the entry process; good luck!
