Friends, today I’m excited to introduce you to the first of my four guest judges for One Crafty Contest! Here she is to tell you a little about herself…
Hi! My name is Ana S., I’m a SAHM from Stillwater, OK, home of the Cowboys & my Alma Mater, OSU. I earned my BS in AG Communications here & met my husband, the super patient Jason, soon after. We married 11 years ago & had our DD, Regan, the smartest, most beautiful child ever, (she’s a genius..pretty sure) 9 years ago.
This expensive love/hobby, mixed with the fact that I’m always redecorating SOME room, caused me to feel a lot of Mommy Guilt about spending $$$ when I was no longer employed outside the home. Thinking about how I could continue what I enjoyed, without feeling terrible, I gained a giant realization. I was looking at $70 glittered balls somewhere when I saw, really, the simplicity of the design, I KNEW that *I* could do the same for $5. It’s been fun every since. I might not be great at any specific thing (yet), some hits…lots of misses, but I love to try. There’s always a new project rolling around my head, that needs to be created, I’ve got big dreams and a bigger craft stash. What could be better?
2. My favorite crafting project ever is?
Well. It’s one gigantic project….my DD’s ‘big girl room’ which I have themed ‘Coco Chanel has Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and rolls around in LOTS of bling, glitter, and everything else fabulous!’ Yes, it’s gaudy, but beyond fantastic, and a little girls (ok, and my!) fantasy room to grow up and dream in. I’ve thrown myself into that space, from trimming bedding & pillows, to covering headboards, making shadow boxes & everything else. It’s very much in progress, as I’m always seeing new things and projects to add!
3. What’s your favorite Starbucks drink?
Sad question for me… My tummy CANNOT tolerate coffee, as much as I would love to! Oh! Italian Cream Sodas, they do make delicious Italian Sodas & sometimes they’ll sub in hot chocolate for coffee if I’m dying to try a drink. They have great apple cider, too.
Europe, most certainly…I’m an Anglophile, especially since finding out my great-grandparents came from England. I’d have to stop in Italy, and just eat for a week, and then France, to shop AND eat! I love traveling, and I’m a beach baby, I’m happy as long as there is either fantastic shopping & eating, or a beautiful soft beach, white sand and clear blue, warm water.
5. What’s the best thing about crafting?
Letting my creativity just go, without expecting some fantastic piece at the end….showing my DD that you don’t have to run out and buy everything (ok, so I’m not great at that)..take a second to look at it, study the materials, think about how it was constructed…and then about how you can do it at home for 10% of the cost and 150% of the charm! She’s already quite accomplished, and has made things that boggle my mind, coming from a 9 year old! I love knowing I can tweak things that I see & love into something that works perfectly in *my* room, or is personalized to whoever or whatever I’m making it for.
6. Why are you looking forward to judging?
I am so excited to see the challenges, and all the interpretations and creations that come from them. I love seeing someone do or make things that I had never even considered! Everything about this should be fun..I’m eager to meet my fellow judges, see what they all do, and learning about new techniques, products, and ideas.
