“Oh. my. GOOD-NESS, girl! Where did you get those jellys?!”
I was sitting next to hubby in the pre-op room. He was dressed in a hospital gown and cap, had an IV inserted, and was waiting for the nurse to come and tell him it was time to go to the operating table to have two cysts removed. As for the nurse? She took one look at us and her eyes went right to my feet.
“I can’t believe it!” she said. “I used to have those when I was a little girl! No one has them anymore, where did you get those?!”
I smiled and declared the three words that are bringing pure joy to the hearts of bloggers, fashionistas, and children of the 80’s everywhere…
Then, I told her what she needed to know…and I’ll tell you too. There’s an Australian based company that has created a new, modern version of the shoe we all loved as kids! Here’s the skinny:
The company: Jelly Beans
The website: www.jbeans.com.au
The cost: $34.99 + FREE US shipping!
The promise: 30 day money back guarantee!
The sizes: available for children AND adults!
I have to admit that the hardest part about ordering my own pair of jellys was choosing a color. I always had hot pink ones growing up, so I was drawn to the pink “Sherbies.” I also thought the neon yellow {“Lemons”} and the red {“Red Rovers”} would be awesome statement shoes. Then there were the “Purple Haze” which I almost ordered because I thought it would be fun to wear them during football season…go Ravens!! But, in the end, I went with Clear Sparkles for two very important reasons.
1. Clear matches everything.
2. Glitter. These were the only ones {so far} with sparkle, and we all know the motto around here. Say it with me…“Glitter makes everything better!”
So, after looking up my Australian size, I placed my order and waited for this package to arrive!
When it did, Little Crafter wanted to help open it, and he found himself a treat in the process
There they were, in all their nostalgic glory… Get. on. my. feet!
Honestly, I have to admit, I was nervous that they might not fit. First of all, because I’d never used Australian sizing before. And second {more importantly}, I have wide feet. I have an awful time finding shoes that fit comfortably in the actual shoe store because of it. But, lo and behold, these are a perfect fit! Can you hear the birdies singing the hallelujah chorus?
Whew! Once I knew they fit, it was time to start rocking them with style. One of my favorite jelly-licious outfits is this one I wore to church last Sunday.
The coral pants {Old Navy} make enough of a color statement for the outfit, and paired with the polka dotted peplum top from Express, the whole thing feels rather nautical and summery. What better to top it all off than clear, glittery Jelly Beans?! The ultimate summer shoe!
And believe it or not, Jellys are the perfect casual compliment to a dressier outfit, like this strapless maxi dress from Old Navy! I totally got photo-bombed by a pirate here, but he’s so cute I couldn’t say no!
I have to say I’m kind of totally in love with these things. Obviously I love the glitter, and I also love the way you can see your toenail polish through the clear part! What’s more, they’re actually really comfortable! I’ve heard a few Negative Nellies on Facebook lately talking about how they got blisters from jellys as a kid, but let me assure you, that’s not the case with these new ones! I’ve literally worn these at least every other day since they arrived, so trust me, I’d know. And you know we play the honestly game, so I really would tell you. What I’m going to tell you…true story…is that the day I did my most recent photo session for Tailor & Stylist in Annapolis {remember that?}, I brought three pairs of shoes with me. One pair of strappy red heels, a pair of black pumps, and a pair of black wedge heels. Here’s what happened.
My poor feet were all kinds of tired and sore by the time we’d traipsed all over downtown to get the photos. But we still had to go to the mall for a covert buy-LC-a-birthday-present-at-the-Lego-store-the-one-time-he-isn’t-with-us mission. What did I do? Have you guessed it?
That’s right, baby, I broke out my Jellys. They were in the car and I took advantage of it! I rocked them with that black and white dress all over the Annapolis Mall. And my feet said Thank You. They were by far the most comfortable shoes I could put on, and so I did.
Honestly, I do have one problem with these shoes. What is it? I only have one pair. Now that I’ve worn them and love them, my problem is that I want several more. Pink. Red. Yellow. Purple. Sigh. What’s an artsy mama to do? What about you? What color jellys would YOU love to wear?
Hugs & Glitter,
