Today, my friend Lisa is celebrating a big birthday. Our friendship goes back about 13 years, and the two of us have a lot in common; for example, we both love coffee, making music, and classic literature. We used to sing together in church, and she was actually the soloist in my wedding. Back in the day, we met once a week at a local coffee shop for some girl time…but now she lives in New Jersey. It’s been way too long since I’ve seen her, but I wanted to make sure to send her a special song for her birthday. After all, singing is our favorite thing to do together!
But how to send a song? Recently, I heard about American Greetings’ new personalized video eCards and decided to give them a try.
These eCards allow you to create a personalized song for your recipient by entering certain information about them…how fun is that?! I know Lisa loves the Sound of Music like I do, and I thought she’d be entertained by yodeling, so I chose the Birthday Yodel Video eCard.
It prompted me to enter information about Lisa, like her name, her age, and her hair and eye color. Once I had it all filled out I hit preview. And I cracked up. The best part about the whole thing is that the funny little singing goats are the ones who say her name and information…seriously hilarious. When the little one sang, “Liiiisa,” I almost spit my drink out.
Once I had seen the preview, it was time to send the card. I had the option of sending it via email, directly to her mobile phone, or sharing it to her Facebook timeline. I’m not sure the phone number I have for Lisa is current, and her track record of checking emails isn’t stellar, but I’d seen her on Facebook just this morning, so I decided that was the way to go. All I had to do was authorize my Facebook account, then choose her from the list of my friends. It was instantly there on her timeline for her to enjoy! I love that it’s such a fun, easy way to reconnect even though we’re several states apart now, and I totally appreciate that she can have it instantly. I’m terrible about remembering to buy stamps and mail cards so they arrive on time, so this helps me not look like such a slacker. 😉
There are lots of other fun kinds of eCards available too, for just about any occasion you can imagine. I was looking at these April Fool’s Day ones and planning ahead for next week…
As a bonus, you can attach a gift card to any eCard too, so it’s a totally simple way to send a gift if you need one. I love quick, cheap, and easy, don’t you? Speaking of which, to join American Greetings and send these cards yourself, membership is just $3.99/mo, $19.99/yr, or $29.99 for a 2 year membership. You can also do a free 7-day Trial Membership if you want to test it out for yourself. So, what are you waiting for? Make your American Greetings eCard now! It’s fun and easy…and I definitely recommend the singing goats. Honestly.

I’m lousy about sending cards. Many moons ago (read: before children) I used to make them for everyone one in the family. Nope. Not anymore. 🙂 This is a fun alternative!
