Summer is just around the corner, and if your family is anything like ours, you probably have lots of outdoor fun planned for the coming months! From picnics to riding a banana boat and parasailing, all of us here in the Artsy Family seem to be happiest when we’re enjoying the outdoors together!
Every summer, we take our annual vacation to our favorite place, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and enjoy the sand and surf together.
And while we’re at home, we spend a LOT of time on the mini-golf course! It’s a certain someone’s favorite activity, so we end up going just about every day.
But no matter where we are or what we’re doing outdoors, one thing is always the same; we all start the day by protecting our skin with sunscreen. We have a little checklist we can use when we take day trips, and sunscreen is number one!
I know there are a lot of people out there who feel like it’s no big deal and who choose not to put on sunscreen for one reason or another, but around here we take it very seriously. I come from a long genetic history of “moley” people on both sides of my family, and I have more than my fair share of them. Because of that, I see a dermatologist for yearly skin checks, and I’ve had a number of moles removed…several of which were classified as atypical. I have to be vigilant about my own skin care, and I want to be sure I’m protecting Little Crafter starting as early as possible too.
Not to mention the fact that nobody likes a sunburn! Ouch! Ain’t nobody got time for that, especially when there’s so much summer fun to be had! As I’m sure you know, there are about a million and two options when it comes to choosing a sunscreen; just look at the display in our local Walmart!
We have a few personal favorites here in Artsy-Land; Hubby loves the new Banana Boat for Men SPF 30 Clear Spray. He’s adamant about preferring spray sunscreen over lotion, and this one has a really great manly smell that’s almost like cologne. It actually smells good, and it doesn’t have that typical “sunscreen scent” at all. Little Crafter also prefers to use spray sunscreen, so I got him the Banana Boat Kids Free SPF 50 Clear Spray. It’s perfect for him because it’s alcohol-free, tear-free, and sting-free, plus mine came with a bonus sunscreen stick I can use on his face. I personally prefer lotion because I can see where I put it and know for sure that I didn’t miss a spot, but I don’t like the greasy feel or the icky smell a lot of lotions have. This one, the Banana Boat Protect and Hydrate SPF 50 lotion is my must-have this summer because it’s not greasy at all and it has no scent. It feels like you’re just putting on moisturizing lotion for the day, and you’re getting your sun protection at the same time.
There are tons of other choices too if none of these appeal to you; you can get a Sport SPF 50 Clear Spray that the whole family can use, a moisturizing Protect & Hydrate SPF 50 Spray, Men’s SPF 50 Lotion, or any number of other options with varying scents, SPFs, types, and benefits. There’s no bad choice, except not protecting yourself and your family from the damage sun can do to your skin!
What outdoor adventures are on tap for your family this summer? Just for fun, I’ve created a printable booklet for you that you can use as you explore together.
There are two different pages, each with four smaller pages, like the one you see above. Download them by clicking the links below and saving them to your computer. Then, you can print out as many copies of each as you like, cut the larger pages into the four smaller ones, and staple them together in any order you want!
Make sure you change the margins for your printer settings before printing them out so nothing gets cut off!
Now, before you go, I have two great contests to tell you about that could take your summer fun to the next level! Banana Boat is hosting a Wheel of Fun contest on their Facebook page that could win you some seriously great prizes like a trip to Disney World/Land, a trip to Sea World, or tickets to Six Flags Amusement Park! Then, if you head over to Walmart’s site, you can instantly win up to a $100 gift card. Why not stop by and get your entries in; you’ve got nothing to lose!
