Thanks to Kohl’s for sponsoring today’s post. All opinions are 100% my own {or Little Crafter’s}.
Can you feel it in the air, friends? It’s almost that time again…back to school. In fact, I know kiddos in some states have already started heading back to the classroom. As for Little Crafter, he has a precious few weeks left before it’s time to start first grade! With any new school year comes the task of shopping for school supplies, backpacks and lunchboxes, clothes; you know the drill. This year, we were given the challenge of heading to our local Kohl’s to see just how much we could get to equip Little Crafter for first grade with $100.
I’m always up for a good challenge, especially when it involves getting the most for my money, so Little Crafter and I headed to Kohl’s armed with our gift card and his school supply list.
He was a very enthusiastic shopper, especially since the carts are the perfect size for him to push by himself.
As we headed toward the kids’ clothing section, we passed several special displays filled with school supplies. The first one contained several things we needed, including pink block erasers and dry erase markers…and they were all on sale.
The second display was all about Crayola products, and everything was 20% off! We grabbed the markers and crayons that were on Little Crafter’s supply list, then headed toward the clothing section.
As we got close to the boys’ department, Little Crafter spied this display of backpacks and ran over to get a closer look. Most of you already know he’s all about Ninja Turtles these days, and much to his delight there were four different TMNT designs to choose from, all for just $14.99. He tried them all on, made me take photos and show him how he looked, then chose his favorite.
The winner was…the backpack that looked like a turtle shell, because {as he says}, this way he can BE the Ninja Turtle. He loved it so much that he refused to take it off during the entire rest of our shopping experience. Close to the backpack display, LC spied a wall of clothes featuring Dusty and the other characters from Disney’s Planes Fire & Resuce. We just went to see the movie this past week while we were in Myrtle Beach, so he was thrilled to see the characters on shirts and pants. After perusing the display, we also looked at the shirts featuring some of Little Crafter’s other favorite characters, like the turtles, LEGO movie, and more.
I kept a running total of our purchases in my head, and when I thought we were about at our $100 mark, we headed to the register. $98.14. Boom. We are awesome, no?
Not only did we come in right under our grand total, we saved $67.22 AND got ourselves $10 in Kohl’s Cash.
So, wanna see what we ended up with for our $100?
#1: A Bladerunner Shirt, on sale for $10
Little Crafter thinks Bladerunner is totally awesome, and he picked out this particular shirt because “it feels like a swim shirt and is very comfy.”
#2: TMNT T-shirt with Turtle Faces, on sale for $8
I told you, we’re all about turtle power around here.
#3: TMNT “We’re Here for the Pizza” T-shirt, on sale for $8
I seriously love shopping with this kid because he cracks me up. He saw this shirt folded up on the display, held it out to read it and then started laughing like crazy. “It’s so funny, Mommy! I want it!”
#4: Planes Dusty Long Sleeve T-shirt, on sale for $10
Little Crafter pulled this one off the rack saying, “Mommy, this is the one that really caught my eye.” Literally. That’s what he said. I told you, he cracks me up.
#5: TMNT Backpack, on sale for $14.99 and #6: TMNT Lunchbox, on sale for $8.99
#7: Assorted School Supplies: crayons, markers, erasers, etc.
I’d say we did pretty well, wouldn’t you? Little Crafter is ready to head back to school in style and with his favorite characters. I love that with the sale prices, the character merchandise was the same price or even less than the non-character options. This way, it’s affordable and he has what he really enjoys. Being able to wear and use Ninja Turtles will help motivate him for school in the mornings {especially since he usually hates getting out of his pjs}.
What about you, what’s on your child{ren}’s back to school shopping list?
