Friends, you know I love me a good challenge! Recently, I received an invitation to participate in a Mystery Box Valentine Challenge where I’d receive a box full of random goodies from iLovetoCreate and my job would be to create a project using some or all of them. Sign me up! When my box arrived, I couldn’t wait to see what was inside…there were three colors of fabric paint, a pack of stencils, a paint roller, spray adhesive, a pillow cover, and some Fabric Fusion.
As soon as I saw the stencils, I knew what I had to do. See, I have a good friend whose birthday happens to be very close to Valentine’s Day and I knew I could make her a special gift using one particular stencil from the pack. See that tiara there at the top? Yep, that’s the one. Our little group of moms firmly believes that everything is better when one is wearing a tiara. All six of us own one and we frequently pull them out and wear them because…tiaras! Sometimes we wear them when we celebrate, like New Year’s Eve. Sometimes we wear them when we need to feel better, like Vanessa at the dentist’s office. Sometimes we just wear them when we’re eating soup, like Danielle.
Can you see why this was the perfect choice? Here’s how I created a fun sparkly tiara t-shirt using just a few supplies…
Materials: {provided by iLovetoCreate}
– Tulip Soft Matte fabric paint: Raspberry, Steel, and Tomato
– Tulip Fabric Stencils
– Tulip Stencil Spray Adhesive
– Tulip Premium Fashion Glitter and Glitter Bond
– Stencil brushes
– white t-shirt
Step 1: Iron your t-shirt. Place a barrier between the front and back of the shirt to prevent your paint from bleeding through. You can use newspaper or a paper bag; I used the cardboard packaging from my stencils.
Step 2: Lightly and evenly spray the back of your stencil with the Spray Adhesive. Allow it to dry, then position the stencil where you want it to go. Just a tip, you might want to sit the stencil down on top of some newspaper before you spray; if you hold it in your hand, your hand will get very sticky and you’ll stick to everything for the rest of the day, like your keyboard, your coffee mug, etc. Or, ahem, at least I assume it would…
Step 3: Apply fabric paint to the areas inside the stencil. Since I wanted different colors in the various spaces, the roller wasn’t a good option for me on this project, but it would work great if you wanted a one-color design!
Step 4: Glitter makes everything better, you know! I just so happened to have some Tulip Fabric Glitter in my stash, so I pulled it out and chose a few colors to accent the design. I applied the bond first, then immediately sprinkled glitter on top.
Step 5: I let the whole thing dry for a few hours, then shook off the extra glitter {outside}!
I can’t wait to give this to my friend! And I have a funny feeling I’ll soon be making several more…
