Friends, you all know that I love a good DIY project…if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be living up to my name as One Artsy Mama, right? When it comes to jewelry, kids’ crafts, and home décor, I love to make it myself. But I also know that there are some things that fall into the category of “DDIY” Projects, in other words, “Don’t do it yourself.” As we prepare to move into our new house, I have a laundry list of improvements and changes we want to make, and while some of them are on my own to-do list, when it comes to new flooring, I’m going to leave that to the professionals at Carpet One.
Over the years, we’ve replaced the flooring in almost the entire house we’re moving out of, and we’ve trusted our local Carpet One store to install both carpeting and laminate for us. We have always been pleased with the service and the quality of the flooring itself, so naturally, we were curious to see what kind of options they offer for the new projects we have in mind. Our store, Mercer Carpet One, carries a huge selection and exclusive brands, so I knew I could find something that matched what I was imagining. The number one thing on my wish list is new flooring for the area in the basement that will become my craft room! Here is a photo of the room as the current owners have it set up now.
This space is about 1/3 of the basement; another part is a finished off play area, which is on the other side of the steps coming downstairs, and there’s a large unfinished area for laundry and storage. It’s a great big space and I cannot wait to have all that room to spread out my supplies and get busy creating! The walls are neutral, so they can stay as they are, but floor is just cheap, not-so-awesome carpeting. If you have ever done crafts in a carpeted area, you know already that it’s not ideal. Things like glitter, paint, and glue are much easier to clean off of a surface like wood, laminate, or tile than carpeting, am I right? I want my craft area to be visually appealing, and I also want it to be super-easy to sweep and clean, so I’m dreaming of replacing that old carpet with a pretty laminate.
Before I headed to our local Carpet One store, I browsed online and found this Sister Bay Classic Teak laminate that I really like. The color and overall look is just what I had in mind.
When I arrived at the store, I asked one of the employees to direct me to the laminate section. I always appreciate that the folks working there are local, invested in the community, and experts in both design and installation. Matthew, the employee who was helping me, walked me to the right section and then proceeded to show me the many options available.
We were able to locate the exact laminate I had seen online and I liked it in person too. It’s heavy and durable and would be an easy surface to clean up when I make a giant mess. Carpet One offers free in-home or in-office measurements, so once you choose what you like, it’s really simple to get a quote and find out how affordable the process would be to rip out the existing carpet and put down the new flooring. I appreciate that their cleaner, healthier installation practices help minimize irritants, dust and odors to encourage better air quality, and they also have a “Beautiful Guarantee”; if you’re not 100% satisfied with your new floor, Carpet One will replace it for free!
While we were there, I checked out some area rug options just in case anything caught my eye. What Little Crafter and I both actually found really interesting was this “Rug Revolution” display…you purchase each of these super-soft squares individually, and as Matthew is showing us in this photo, there’s a removable velcro piece on the back. You just purchase whatever colors you want and however many squares you want to form a square or rectangle rug and velcro them together in the pattern you like. Seriously. How cool is that?!
Little Crafter is determined to create a rug for his room now…that’s what I get for bringing him with me, right?
Anyway, here is how I imagine my dream craft room, complete with the Sister Bay Classic Teak Laminate flooring! Some of these items, like the black cube shelving and the teal bins I actually already have, while others are just on my wish list at the moment.
Doesn’t it look like a wonderful space to create? I can’t wait to move in and have a room all to myself just for crafting. Is there a room in your home that you’d love to give a makeover, starting with new floors? If so, I’ve got some great news for you!
