Hey, friends! As many of you know, we in the Artsy Family are still working on settling into our new home. Up until this week, the living room was my least favorite of all. We put our couch, love seat, and other furniture from our previous living room into the gorgeous hardwood family room, which left us without much to work with. Prior to this Monday, all we had were two mismatched chairs, two floor lamps, and the set of tables I had chalk painted. The previous owners left us brown curtains I didn’t love, and the whole room just felt like a bunch of random things thrown together with no real design.
Then, a friend of ours who is also moving gave us a couch.
That changed everything.
Once the couch was in place I knew what I was working with. I had to find a way to bring the brown and grey together as well as bringing in some color. I wanted to get rid of the heavy, formal feeling that living rooms can sometimes have and create a light, airy space where we actually want to spend time. I also had a budget. What could I do for $150? Could I manage to transform the look and feel of the room? Take a look…
Here’s a “before photo” with just the couch plus the things we had in place.
And here’s a look at the room after I added a few simple touches. The biggest challenge I had was finding a color scheme I liked. I found a rug with browns, greys, and blues that tied the couch and tables together beautifully {which happens to be Fuzzy’s new favorite thing}. Once I had that, I had the inspiration I needed.
Here’s a list of what I got and approximately what each piece cost.
Area rug: $25, Walmart
Teal pillows: $15 for 2, Walmart
Beige pillows: $13 each, Target
Dream Pillow: $14, Walmart
Gallery Wall:
Large Family Canvas: $12, Walmart
Small Bird Canvas: $3, Walmart
Large Photo Frame: $10, Walmart
5×7 Photo Frames: $3 each, Walmart
The other elements were things I had in my craft stash. More on the wall in another post!
Window Panels: $5 each, Walmart
Vinyl Saying: $15, Target
Grand Total: $146!
I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out! Now the room I didn’t want anyone to see is one of my favorite places to be! And I’m so proud of keeping my budget and doing it all for just $150. It’s amazing what you can find when you shop around and look for great deals! So, what could YOU do for $150?

Nicely done! I have no design skills whatsoever, let alone on a budget like that!
