Hey, friends! As we were decorating our tree this past weekend, I came across a cute little ornament from last year that I never shared with you all. It’s really simple to make, and it’s also a little bit “green” since it’s base is a bottle cap. Take a look…
Materials:
– lid/cap from a small glass bottle {mine came from a Starbucks mocha frappuccino}
– brown fabric or felt
– brown pipecleaner
– google eyes
– red pom pom
– red {or other color} felt
– scissors
– hot glue gun and glue
– twine or ribbon
I happen to have *ahem* a few of these laying around the house sometimes, so I was excited to come up with an idea that would allow me to turn them into something useful!
Step 1: Cut a scrap of brown fabric/felt that’s larger than your lid and wrap it tightly around the front. Glue the excess to the back of the lid. Don’t worry that it looks messy, you won’t see it when we’re finished.
Step 2: Cut your pipe cleaner into four pieces; two longer and two shorter. Glue the two longer ones to the back of the lid as the bases of the antlers. Take the shorter pieces and wrap one around each longer piece to form the other “branches” of the antlers.
Step 3: Glue on eyes and a nose.
Step 4: Cut a piece of twine or ribbon and glue it to the back as a hanger.
Step 5: Cut a felt circle slightly smaller than the back of the ornament and glue it in place to cover all your pieces and mess.
There you have it; Rudolph is ready to hang on your tree and spread some holiday cheer!
I don’t know about you, but I think I may have to make the rest of Rudolph’s reindeer pals…Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen…that means I need 8 more lids, right?
