There’s no doubt that large fabric bows are having a major moment right now! The good news is that not only are they on trend, they’re also really simple to make.

How to Make a Large Patchwork Bow

Creating your own bow is a great way to use up fabric scraps. Each one you make will be totally unique, depending on the fabric collection you choose to use. Plus, they’re so quick and easy that you’ll want to make one for every season.

Please note: There are lots of patterns for large bows floating around. Making a big bow is NOT my original idea, but this pattern IS my own; it’s my personal take on how to best make the project.

Materials

Front: 1/8 yard each of 8 different fabrics
Backing: 1 yard
Stabilizer: 1 yard (I recommend By Annie’s Soft and Stable)

While I often offer free patterns for all kinds of craft and sewing/quilting projects, some (like this one) involve a little extra time to create, so I add them to my shop. This helps me continue to be able to do what I do, and I try to keep these patterns as affordable as possible so we can all keep on creating together!

Crafting Tips

Each combination of fabrics will give you a totally different result, so try lots of different things! No one says you can only create one bow.
Use as many different fabrics as you like; you don’t have to limit yourself to just eight.
If you’re new to quilting or just want to save some time, look for a “cheater print” that has the look of patchwork without the effort, like the one in my Bloom and Grow collection.
For an even easier project, you can skip the patchwork and make your bow out of large solid/printed fabric pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use batting inside?

Yes, but I don’t recommend it, because your bow will be too floppy. I highly recommend using a foam stabilizer instead.
