Goodwill Challenge: Erin’s Upcycled Crafty Caddy

Upcycled Crafty Caddy

Hey friends, are you ready for part 2 of our Goodwill Challenge? Amy’s lamp turned out so well, so I knew the pressure was on for me! Amy and I decided upon an odd little serving tray/spice rack/wooden caddy thingy for me to give a second life to, and I love how it turned out (plus how useful this little guy is!). Here’s how I did it!

Upcycled Crafty CaddyMaterials:

-Scrapbook Paper

-Mod Podge

-Paint Brushes

-Sandpaper

-White Spray Paint

-Vinyl (I also used my Cameo)

These materials were supplied by DecoArt, all opinions are my own:

DecoArt Americana Decor Creme Wax (Clear)

DecoArt Americana Decor Creme Wax (Deep Brown)

DecoArt Americana Decor Waxing Brush

Ok, so first I have to show you what I started with, and then we can see how I transformed it!

Upcycled Crafty CaddySo it’s not hideous, but it needed an upgrade! I wanted to make it into something functional, that I could use to hold some of my craft supplies, or use it to tote supplies from room to room.

Step 1. Spray paint it white. I did this because I knew I wanted white to show through when I distressed it, not the wood color.

Step 3: Distress with sand paper. (I like using power tools, because, well, POWER TOOLS.)

Upcycled Crafty CaddySteps 4-5: Seal with creme wax. Let dry. Apply brown creme wax until you get desired look. (I apply the brown creme wax with paper towels, because it’s easier for me to wipe away or add as desired.)

Upcycled Crafty CaddyStep 6: Cut scrapbook paper, and use Mod Podge to glue and seal.

Upcycled Crafty CaddyStep 7: Design, cut, and apply vinyl phrase. I chose “Create” because it went with the whole “creative feel” of my craft room.
