Hey friends, are you ready for part 2 of our Goodwill Challenge? Amy’s lamp turned out so well, so I knew the pressure was on for me! Amy and I decided upon an odd little serving tray/spice rack/wooden caddy thingy for me to give a second life to, and I love how it turned out (plus how useful this little guy is!). Here’s how I did it!
Materials:
-Scrapbook Paper
-Mod Podge
-Paint Brushes
-Sandpaper
-White Spray Paint
-Vinyl (I also used my Cameo)
These materials were supplied by DecoArt, all opinions are my own:
–DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Serene
–DecoArt Americana Decor Creme Wax (Clear)
–DecoArt Americana Decor Creme Wax (Deep Brown)
–DecoArt Americana Decor Waxing Brush
Ok, so first I have to show you what I started with, and then we can see how I transformed it!
So it’s not hideous, but it needed an upgrade! I wanted to make it into something functional, that I could use to hold some of my craft supplies, or use it to tote supplies from room to room.
Step 1. Spray paint it white. I did this because I knew I wanted white to show through when I distressed it, not the wood color.
Step 2: Paint with chalky paint.
Step 3: Distress with sand paper. (I like using power tools, because, well, POWER TOOLS.)
Steps 4-5: Seal with creme wax. Let dry. Apply brown creme wax until you get desired look. (I apply the brown creme wax with paper towels, because it’s easier for me to wipe away or add as desired.)
Step 6: Cut scrapbook paper, and use Mod Podge to glue and seal.
Step 7: Design, cut, and apply vinyl phrase. I chose “Create” because it went with the whole “creative feel” of my craft room.
That’s it! I love how it turned out, and it’s already getting use in my craft room as a “catch all” for some of my sewing supplies.
Another day, another Goodwill Challenge! Hope you’re enjoying these challenges as much as we are, and make sure to send us your own Goodwill challenges, we’d love to see what our readers are up to!

Oh I really like that! A cute catch all for your desk or like you have it, by your sewing machine. Great job!

That is so cool. I love wood crafts and I love a good deal so win-win.
