How to Make a Patriotic USA Banner

This banner is simple to create and requires no sewing at all, just tracing and cutting! You’ll need the new patriotic templates from Missouri Star Quilt Company and your favorite red, white, and blue fabrics along with the other supplies listed below.

Materials

Instructions

Iron fusible interfacing to the back of your fabric.

Use the manufacturer’s instructions regarding temperature and time.

Peel off the backing and adhere to a piece of felt.
Use a heat-erase pen to trace the templates onto the felt.

Remember that you’ll want to trace any directional letters/shapes backwards since the felt will be the back.

Cut out the shapes.

I did the letters “USA” and two stars, but you can do as many stars or other shapes as you like.

Use small clothespins or clips to attach the shapes to twine.

You can also attach them with hot glue, but I like the fact that this makes it easy to change out the shapes seasonally! You can see my spring banner here.

Tie 1” fabric strips to the twine on each end.

You can add as many fabric streamers as you like.

Crafting Tips

  • For a different effect, you can use patriotic ribbon in place of the twine.
  • To personalize your banner, feel free to cover your clothespins with decorative washi tape.
  • Adding more fabric or ribbon streamers will lengthen your banner if you want it to cover a larger area.
