Oh Say Can You Sew-Along Fabric Requirements

The(free!) pattern lists requirements, and you are welcome to follow those, but I wanted to let you know what I personally used based on the changes I made, and on using my Oh Say Can You Sew collection. I decided to use two different blue fabrics instead of just one (one for the inside of the star block and one for the outside/geese). I also chose to make the flying geese four at a time instead of using the method described in the pattern. This actually makes a huge difference in the amount of fabric you need, so doing it this way saves you money AND prevents wasting fabric. I also used a different white fabric for the stripe blocks than for the stars. Check out the video below for all the info.
You’ll need:
1 1/2 yards Red fabric – I used Gallantly Streaming Red (can substitute Bright Stars Red or Semper Fi Rose)
1 1/2 yards White fabric – I used Dancing Daisies White (can substitute a solid or tone on tone white)
1 yard White fabric – I used Andover Century Solids Snow
1 2/3 yard Blue fabric for outer blocks – I used Bright Stars Navy (can substitute Dancing Daisies Navy or Semper Fi Navy)
2/3 yards Blue fabric for inner blocks – I used Poppy Fields Navy
Backing fabric: 5 yards of 44” wide or 2 1/2 yards 108” wide – I’m using Land That I Love Navy 108” (it’s also available in white 108”)
Binding: 3/4 yard of your choice – I plan to use Bright Stars Navy
In addition to the fabric, you’ll need batting that’s large enough for the finished quilt. I’m using Fairfield World Quilter’s Blend 80/20.

Ready to Shop for Fabric?
Here is a list of all the retailers, both in person and online, that are stocking part or all of the Oh Say Can You Sew Collection. I recommend checking out Missouri Star Quilt Co, Spring Water Designs, and/or Lou Lou’s Fabric Shop, as they have yardage of the entire (or almost entire) collection in stock.
Don’t forget to join the sew-along facebook group so you can get updates and share your progress! Hope to see you there.
