Mini American Flag Pillow
Celebrate America’s 250th birthday, as well as Flag Day (June 14) with this fun little patriotic mini flag pillow! It’s simple to make and only requires a few basic supplies.

How to Make a Mini Flag Pillow
You can create your pillow using any patriotic fabrics you like. However, to get the star and stripe effect, I recommend using these specific prints from my Oh Say Can You Sew fabric collection (for Andover fabrics): Bright Stars Navy and Broad Stripes Red. You can find shops carrying the collection here.

Materials
- (2) 4 1/2” x 6 1/2” red/white fabric rectangles (Broad Stripes Red)
- (1) 3” x 3” blue fabric square (Bright Stars Navy)
- pinking shears (optional)
- twine
- Poly-Fil
- hot glue gun and glue sticks

Instructions
1. Use pinking shears around the edges of your fabric pieces to create zig-zag edges.
This is optional, but will give your project a more rustic appearance.
2. Place the blue square right side up in the top left corner of one of the rectangles and sew it in place with a 1/4” seam along the inside edges.
3. Lay the pillow backing piece right side down, then place the pillow top on top of it (right side up). Pin together.
This will feel different from the way we would normally sew a pillow, because we’re sewing from the right side of the fabric so our seams will show.
4. Sew around the edges with a 1/4” seam, leaving a 3” opening in the bottom.
5. Use the opening to add Poly-Fil in the center of the pillow.
6. Sew the opening shut.
7. Add a twine bow to the upper left corner with hot glue.

Crafting Tips
- In place of the bow, you can sew a festive patriotic button.
- These make great party favors! Make a bunch for your July 4th celebration, and label them with small tags attached by safety pins.
- Glue your pillow to a dowel rod, then you can insert it into a flower arrangement or other container like a real flag.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here is a list of shops that are all carrying the collection!
You can either leave the edges of the fabric as is, or you can also make a series of small snips going around the edges, but not quite as far as the seam. This will give it a frayed look, similar to a rag quilt.
