Special thanks to Diamond Tech and Darice Crafts for providing the materials for this project! All opinions are honestly my own!
Hey, friends! If you’ve been following along lately, you know all about my newest “toy”…my Fuseworks Microwave Kiln! I’ve been having a blast making all kinds of projects like my fused glass ring and my Dichroic Pendants! Today I want to show you the newest technique I tried, a Millefiori Fused Glass Pendant. It was SO easy and I love how it turned out; take a look!
Materials:
– Fuseworks Fusing Kit for Beginners
– Fuseworks Running Pliers
– Elmer’s school glue
– jewelry glue
– pendant bail and chain
Note: These are the materials I used from the Fusing Kit for Beginners
– Assorted Millefiori
– Glass Cutter
– White Glass
– Kiln paper
– Microwave Kiln
– heat resistant gloves
Step 1: Score the glass you want to use as your base. The piece of white glass in the kit was about four times larger than I wanted it to be. So, I used the glass cutter and scored where I wanted to cut it.
Step 2: Use running pliers to cut your glass along the scored lines. All you do is line up the center of the pliers {there’s a grooved line to show you where that is} with the score you made and squeeze! The glass will separate. It’s pretty cool.
Step 3: File any rough edges. The firing process will smooth things out some, but you want to take care of any sharp pieces that could injure you while you work with the piece. You can try sand paper or a metal file, but I find that a fingernail file does the trick in a pinch too!
Step 4: Choose your millefiori! In case you’ve never heard of it, this is millefiori. It comes in an assortment like this and you can choose whichever pieces you want to work with based on size, color, and more.
Step 5: Arrange your millefiori and glue each piece to the base. I made a 3×3 square with mine and used a pattern where I alternated teal/green ones with dark blue.
Step 6: Place your piece on kiln paper and fire according to manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 7: When your piece is completely cool, attach a bail and chain! Remember not to remove the kiln lid for the first 30 minutes, then to let your piece cool for another 30-40 minutes before attempting to handle it.
I love the effect of the fused millefiori, don’t you? Is this a style you would wear?
