How to Make a No-Sew Fabric Banner

This project is easy to create and can be totally customized to say any word or phrase you like. You can also make it unique by using your favorite fabrics and colors, as well as choosing whatever flag shape you like best. Grab the supplies below, and let’s get started!

Materials

Instructions

  1. Iron fusible adhesive to the back of your fabric.
  2. Trace your alphabet stencils or stickers onto the fabric.

Pro tip: If you don’t have a heat erasable pen, I recommend tracing on the back of the fabric so your lines won’t be visible. Make sure to also flip your letter stencils backwards if you do this!

3. Cut out your traced letters using fabric scissors.

4. Peel off the paper backing and position each letter in the center of a burlap banner.

5. Iron each letter to hold it in place.

Pro tip: Place a thin cloth on top to keep the iron from directly touching the burlap so that it won’t scorch.

6. Remove any excess banners that you didn’t use from the twine.

Now your banner is ready to display!

Crafting Tips

  • Burlap banners are available in brown and white, as well as various shapes including triangles, rectangles, shapes with scalloped edges, and more. You can find them at your local craft store or online.
  • For another effect, try making each letter from a different fabric.
  • To take your banner to the next level, you can add an extra step and hand stitch around the edges of the letters.
