How to Make a Macrame Daisy Keychain

To create this fun keychain, you’ll just need to gather a few simple supplies and master four basic macrame knots. If you already know them, it’ll be a piece of cake. If not, you’ll be surprised how easy they are to learn and combine to create pretty little flowers!

Knots Used

If you’re new to macrame, check out this wonderful post with step-by-step instructions for each of these (plus other) knots.

Instructions

Tape the keyring to your work surface with painters’ tape.
Cut your macrame cord.

You’ll need 2 pieces of your main flower color that are 48” each (I used pink), and 1 piece of your secondary color that’s 30” long (I used natural).

Attach your cords to the keyring.

Start by folding the 48” cords in half, then slide the looped ends through your keyring about 2”, with one loop to the left and one to the right.

Place the center of your 30” cord under the other cords. Make a lark’s head knot with each of the 48” cords.

Create the top of the flower.

Make a circle with the ends of the 30” cord that overlaps your other cords. Then, tie two half-hitch knots around it, each using two cords of your main flower color.

Create the sides of the flower.

Using the leftmost main color cord, tie three vertical lark’s head knots around the left secondary color cord.

Repeat on the right side of the flower.

Add a bead center.

Thread the two center main color cords through the center of a wooden bead.

Finish the flower.

Loop the secondary cords over all four of the main cords again to form a circle. Make half hitch knots. Pull the looped cords while holding the others down to form a knot against the bead.

Create two more flowers.

Repeat the previous step, looping the secondary cord and making half hitch knots with the four main cords to create the top of the next flower.

Continue, repeating all instructions to create two more flowers (or however many you want).

Finish with a wrap knot.

Cut a 24” piece of cord in any color and use it to create a wrap knot at the base of your bottom flower. Pull to tighten and trim off the excess cord.

Trim the remaining cord ends to whatever length you like. Some people like to leave the cords as is, while others choose to unravel/fray them for a more tassel-like appearance.

Crafting Tips

  • Try different color combinations for lots of different, unique keychains!
  • Feel free to use other types of beads, like pearls or even something sparkly.
  • If you prefer just one or two flowers, simply stop and tie off your cords with a wrap knot at the bottom of the last one.
