How to Make Clothespin Carrots

This is such an easy craft project, and it’s fun for the whole family to create together. My mom, my son, and I each did a part of the process to make ours. My son’s favorite job was pulling the clothespins apart! After all, how often do you get permission to break things apart on purpose? Ready to create your own? Grab the materials below, and let’s get crafty.

Materials

  • wooden clothespins
  • paintbrush
  • assorted green ribbon
  • green paper easter grass
  • hot glue gun/glue sticks
  • scissors
  • optional: peat pot or other small flower pot

Instructions

Remove the metal clip from the clothespins and paint the wooden pieces orange.

Glue the flat sides of the wooden pieces together to form the carrot shape.

Cut ribbon and paper grass into 6” pieces. Create a bundle containing one piece of light green ribbon, one piece of dark green ribbon, and 3-4 pieces of grass. Tie it together in the center with a second piece of dark green ribbon.

Fold it in half with the knot at the bottom, and glue it to the top of the carrot.

Repeat the process to create as many wooden carrots as you like. You can display your carrots either individually or tied together on a tiered tray, a shelf, a mantel, or anywhere you want to put them.

I had some peat pots left from another spring project, so I filled one with paper shred and placed the carrots inside.

I even used a permanent marker to write on my pot, labeling it as, “farm fresh carrots.”

Crafting Tips

  • Paint one side of the wooden pieces first and wait for them to dry, then flip them over to paint the other side.
  • Hot glue is the most effective type of adhesive to use for this project. If you’re crafting with small children, make sure to supervise or to do the hot glue steps for them.
