You know, friends, I think these days there’s a holiday for just about everything. One of my personal favorites, of course, is National Coffee Day next Monday, but today is a special day all of its own…Elephant Appreciation Day. Not even kidding. There’s a day for that. Google it if you don’t believe me! Here’s a fun little project I came up with to help us celebrate:
Materials:
– Elastic Cord
– Wooden Beads
– Elephant Charm
– Jump Ring
– Pliers
– Scissors
Step 1: Measure your wrist and cut a piece of elastic cord that’s 2″ longer than what you need to make a comfortably fitting bracelet.
Step 2: Open the jump ring with your pliers {remember to twist apart, never pull} and attach it to your elephant charm.
Step 3: Place the elephant charm in the center of your cord.
Step 4: Add wooden beads on both sides of the elephant in whatever pattern you like.
I chose to make mine symmetrical, but you can do yours totally random or in any other way you want. I also tried to vary the colors and shapes of the beads I used.
Step 5: Once you have enough beads to comfortably circle your wrist, tie your elastic tightly several times to create a knot. Trim the excess, and tuck the knot into one of your beads.
You can also add a tiny dab of jewelry glue, clear nail polish, or super glue to the knot to ensure that it stays tied.
That’s it! Now you have an Elephant Bracelet, just in time for Elephant Appreciation Day! Honestly. I couldn’t even make that up if I tried.

Wow, they really have a day for everything, don’t they? And what better way to appreciate our big grey friends than make a elephant bracelet. If only all of these holidays gave us more jewellery! And thanks to bubble guppies, I now know that elephants are pachyderms. 😉

Amy, where did you find your elephant charm? I have a little girl who loves elephants–she would love this bracelet!

I love wooden beads! They match everything.
