Friends, it’s really that time again! Time to start thinking about what gifts we want to give our loved ones this holiday season and to start making them too! I’m excited to be participating in the 5th Annual Handmade Holidays Blog Hop today; a bunch of us are all sharing ideas for meaningful and do-able handmade gift ideas to inspire you over the next few days. Here’s the gift idea I wanted to show you today: Framed Map Art.
Materials:
Unfinished Wood Frame
DecoArt Metallic Lustre
Printed Map
Tombow Fudenosuke Pen
Step 1: Apply Metallic Lustre to your frame.
This is an easy to use, water-based metallic wax that will transform just about any surface into a gorgeous metallic sheen. I find it easiest to apply with my finger or a soft cloth instead of a brush. Let it dry completely, which takes about five minutes, then gently buff it with a cloth for even more shine!
Step 2: Print out a map of your friend’s home state/city and cut it to fit the frame.
Step 3: Hand-letter your message.
I chose to write, “home is where the heart is.” Then I embellished my design by turning the city marker into a heart and sketching an arrow pointing to it. If you’ve never tried hand-lettering before, check out my simple how-to post for tips and tricks {I promise you can do it}! Or, you can always print directly on the map, use a stencil, or use alphabet stickers instead.
Step 4: Place the map in the frame, along with the glass.
See? Easy peasy! Do you have a friend or family member who would appreciate this sweet reminder of home?
