Kids’ Art Gifts

Most people seem to enjoy receiving handmade gifts. They enjoy it even more when the gift was made by someone they know and love. But if that someone also happens to be little? Well, it’s a guaranteed hit! I’ve found that grandparents, great-grandparents, and other loved ones can’t resist anything created by the little folks in their lives, so I decided to try and come up with a new and fun way to make some holiday gifts using kids’ original artwork. This is super easy to do and to customize for just about anything you think the person would enjoy. Here’s how…

You need:
– white adhesive vinyl
– BIC Mark-It Permanent Markers
– Scissors
– a smooth glass or plastic surface {a glass, a mug, a vase, etc.}

Step 1: Choose an object your recipient will like. I’ll provide a list of ideas in a minute! Clean the surface if necessary.

Step 2: Measure and cut a piece of adhesive vinyl that will fit onto the object. I almost always have white vinyl on hand because of my Silhouette Cameo, but even if you don’t have a fancy cutting machine, you can find vinyl in your local craft store or order it online.

Step 3: Have the child draw a picture or write a message using permanent marker directly on the vinyl.

Step 4: Cut out around the image. I used scissors and did the best I could. You can also get fancy and use the photo scan feature on an electronic cutting machine if you prefer. But trust me, scissors do the trick.

Step 5: Peel off the backing and adhere the artwork to the object.

Voilá! An easy-peasy and special way to gift a child’s art that’s more useful than just putting it in a frame or on the fridge. Here’s a list of things you can use as a base for the gift:

– a coffee mug
– a tumbler or cold cup
– a glass
– a water bottle
– an ornament
– a vase
– a tablet or smartphone case
– a notebook or journal
– coasters {you can get blank tiles for less than 25 cents a piece at home improvement stores}
– a bowl
– a jar
– a pencil can
– a plastic pencil box or recipe box

I’m sure there are lots more things you could use too that I haven’t even thought of yet! What would YOU love to have with a kiddo’s artwork on it?
