Oh Say Can You Sew-Along
Let’s celebrate the 250th birthday of America together by sewing a special red, white, and blue quilt! During the month of March, I’m going to be creating this patriotic project, and I’d love for you to join me as we sew along together.

Here’s how it works
Starting March 1, 2026, I will be sharing everything you need to sew along with me, including:
- the free pattern download (courtesy of Missouri Star Quilt Company)
- required and recommended fabric and notions
- step by step video instructions/tutorials
- progress photos
Join the Sew-Along
While I will be sharing information here on the website, I’d also love for you to join in the fun in this special Facebook group that’s just for folks who are (or may be interested in) sewing along. Don’t worry if you go a little slower than I do, or even want to come back later…it’s just a place for us to be able to communicate and share ideas, progress, and questions.
In the group, you can:
* share your progress photos
* ask questions
* get to know other quilters
* share your tips and tricks
* have fun!
Feel free to join the group today, so we can get to know each other before we start.
When completed, this quilt will be 64” x 80”, which is the ideal size for donation to the Quilts of Valor foundation, which awards handmade patriotic quilts to Service Members and Veterans who have been touched by war. You can donate a completed (quilted and bound) project, or just the quilt top and it will be finished by a member of the “Long Army.” Check out their website for more information about how to donate and to find a chapter near you.
Oh Say Can You Sew Fabric

I will be sewing with fabrics from my Oh Say Can You Sew fabric collection for Andover Fabrics, which is shipping to stores between February 20-March 1. Keep an eye out at your favorite quilt shop for the fabric to arrive! Of course, you can also use other red, white, and blue fabrics you have on hand. More information to come soon about specific requirements. In the meantime, you can browse my collection as well as check out other free patterns using these fabrics.
Oh Say Can You Sew Aurifil Thread Collection

I’ve partnered with the folks at Aurifil to curate a collection of 7 small spools of their 100% cotton 50wt thread. While you can certainly use your choice of thread for the project, this is what I will be working with, and it coordinates perfectly with the fabrics to create a professional looking finished project. If you want to get a head start, you can order a thread collection now.
Frequently Asked Questions
This pattern requires some basic quilting techniques like HST (half square triangles) and flying geese. However, don’t worry if you’ve never done those before. I’ll be walking you through the process step-by-step with videos, photos, and written instructions. This is totally doable even for a beginner!
No problem! This quilt contains two different kinds of blocks that are alternated and arranged to create the quilt pattern. If you prefer to make a smaller project like a throw, a table runner, a wall hanging, or even just a pillow, you can simply make fewer blocks and sew them together to create whatever project you like. In fact, I’ll be sharing suggestions for how many blocks to use and how to arrange them to make all of these other projects, just in case!
Quilting is the part where you sew three layers: backing, batting, and the pieced quilt top together. When we are ready for that step, I will be sharing videos and posts about how you can do this using straight lines on your regular sewing machine, as well as ruler/template and free motion quilting for those of you with more advanced machines. Don’t want to do it yourself? Find a local quilt shop or individual with a long arm machine, or send it away to a company like MSQC and they can quilt it for you (this is usually priced per square inch).
