Fashion Saturday: Leather and Denim

Friends, thanks to YOU and your votes, I’m headed to NYC for the filming of the P&G Beauty and Lucky Magazine “New Voices of Beauty” video!  Honestly?  I don’t have enough words to describe to you the combination of excitement and nervousness I’m feeling!  We were told there will be stylists on site to do our hair and makeup for us {using P&G products, of course!} but that they want our outfits to be our own so they reflect our own personal style.  They also advised us to pack a lot of clothing!  Didn’t need to tell me twice!  There are an awful lot of dresses, pants, skirts, and tops getting crammed into my suitcase, but I thought I’d take a minute to show you one of my favorite outfits I put together for the trip.  Unfortunately, this probably won’t get worn for the video because I found out recently that they’re filming it outside {whaaat?!} and it’s going to be about 30 degrees if we’re lucky.  But, it’s cute and I thought I’d show you anyway!

One of the things I love about this outfit is that two or three years ago, I would never have put it together.  But as my fashion sense has evolved {with the help of Lucky and other style sites}, I’ve learned about balancing things out and pairing something feminine with something a little “rocker chic”; something casual with something dressy, something neutral with something colorful…you get the idea.  And so, this outfit came together.  My other favorite thing about it is that no single piece of it cost more than $50.  You all know we’re about “honest inspiration” around here, which means we talk about things that are honestly wearable, affordable, etc.  So, I’m not typically going to show you pieces that cost hundreds of dollars and are probably out of both my budget and yours.  This whole outfit cost me less than $150 from head to toe.  Take a look…

The starting point for this outfit is a dress hubby fell in love with at Target:  Mossimo Faux Leather Skater Dress – $27.99
That’s right, hubby picked it first.  He was intrigued by the leather, and when I tried it on, it fit like a glove.  It hides the pooch, is tight where it needs to be, loose where it needs to be, and covers up what it needs to cover up, if you know what I mean.  Fits like a dream.  And it’s less than $30.

Since it’s winter, I obviously needed something to go over the dress, but a cardigan or anything too feminine just wasn’t working with the faux leather look.  I needed something casual and a little “tough”, so I went with this Old Navy Cropped Denim Jacket – $34.94

I also needed to cover my legs {brrrr!}, so I added another thing from Old Navy, Silver Tights – $9.97

For shoes, I really wanted to wear my black suede ankle boots, but I may or may not have gotten a nasty blister from them at CHA.  So, instead, I decided to go for a pop of color along with comfort and chose my {also from Old Navy} Red Scrunch Ballet Flats – $16.97

Then it was time to accessorize!  I wanted a long necklace with a little bit of bling, so I picked a pendant from Charming Charlie’s that I got at LuckyFABB, along with another Charming Charlie’s piece, a dainty gold Infinity Bracelet.  Since my necklace was such a statement piece, I went with my Kendra Phillip Kara Star Stud Earrings – $42.00 to balance out the look.  I also added the Beaded Monogram Bracelet I made a CHA, and a chunky black ring.  The denim and red shoes begged for red lipstick, and once all that was in place, I felt a bit of a 50’s vibe going on, so I grabbed the Goody Polkadot Hair band my friend Jess gave me for my birthday.  I curled my hair with the ConAir Curl Secret I got for Christmas {I LOVE that thing}! And there you have it!

Who knows if this is the outfit that will end up in the video, but it’s a definite contender!  What do you think?

Hugs & Glitter,

siggy
