Halloween will be here before we know it, so it’s time to start coming up with some great costume ideas that don’t break the bank! Today, 80+ blog buddies got together to bring you 80+ DIY Halloween costumes! I’m teaming up with Jamie Dorobek and her handmade Halloween costume site, Really Awesome Costumes, to bring y’all tons of easy ideas to craft up DIY Halloween costumes for everyone including your pets, family costumes, and even a trunk or treat idea! As for me, I want to share one of my favorites with you; hubby and I think the Blues Brothers are absolutely hysterical, so a few years back, we figured out how to inexpensively put together Elwood and Jake costumes. We wore them for a Costume Dance we attended, then on Halloween hubby and his friend Matt were the Blues Brothers while I was an 80’s diva. Here’s what you need put together your own…
Along with my Blues Brothers Costumes, I’m sharing 88+ more really awesome handmade costume ideas from talented bloggers everywhere!
Now, here’s how to become Elwood and Jake…
Both people need:
– a black fedora
– a black suit
– a white button down shirt
– a black tie
– a watch
– white socks
– black shoes
– sunglasses
“Jake” needs:
– a belt
This is a particularly easy costume to put together for guys since most of them already own a black suit, black shoes, white socks, a belt, a watch, and a white dress shirt. We found some of our extra items at our local goodwill store; that can be a great place to find things like the tie, the sunglasses, and any other pieces you need. Our fedoras came from Target, and were relatively inexpensive, plus they can be worn again. We found our sunglasses at Walmart.
I think the most fun part of the whole thing is the little details, like remembering that Jake and Elwood have their names tattooed on their fingers. {I used a black pen to create that effect temporarily.} Elwood wears his watch on the right arm while Jake’s goes on his left.
Tips for a female wearing the costume: I wore no makeup except for moisturizer and foundation. I also wore no jewelry, unless you count the watch.
One thing I learned quickly was just how hot it can be wearing a suit and tie! But it was a lot of fun, and we got tons of compliments.
