Hand Lettering for Faith: A Bible Journaling Book
Friends, this may be the most exciting announcement I’ve ever had to share with you. My newest book, Hand Lettering for Faith, releases October 15, and I cannot wait for you to get your hands on it! While I have a special fondness for each of my books, this is by far my favorite. I’ve wanted to write it for several years now, and my whole heart is on the pages.
Those of you who know me are aware that I’m passionate about several things, including my family, the Oxford comma, and Starbucks coffee. But the thing I’m most passionate about is my faith. It makes me who I am and defines every other are of my life. For years, I read a variety of devotionals and tried connecting with God in the ways I saw other people in my life doing, but it never quite felt right. I just couldn’t muster up an excitement about theology like my husband somehow does. Then I discovered Bible Journaling and everything changed. I realized that God had given me a creative personality and artistic gifts; I should be using them to connect with Him instead of trying to fit into a different mold. I started using my hand lettering skills in my Bible and the verses began to come alive. It was a huge game changer for me in my relationship with the Lord, and I’ll bet that some of you would find it to be the same, if you haven’t already.
Like my previous books, Hand Lettering for Faith is broken into workbook-style chapters. Each chapter begins with a finished design, then contains a tutorial for a particular skill used in that design. There is practice space and step-by-step instruction, then there’s a blank bordered page where you can recreate the inspiration design or create your own version in any way you like. There are 40 chapters, each focused on a particular passage of Scripture. Along with the lettering tutorials, I also share a short devotional thought about the passage you’ll be journaling. The skills you’ll practice include design layout, Bible-themed embellishments, shadowing, fun fonts, brush style lettering, and more.
My hope and prayer is that working through Hand Lettering for Faith will draw you closer to the Lord and also equip you to continue Bible Journaling on your own, well beyond the 40 passages we’ll letter and illustrate together.
