I love projects that are quick, inexpensive, and easy. This particular project is all three. It’s made from dishtowels that cost less than $2, and it takes less than ten minutes to create. Depending on the towels you choose, you’ll get a pillow that’s perfect for spring, summer, or even holidays! It’s also a great gift idea. Here’s how to create your own.
You’ll need:
2 dish towels (these are 15”x 25” from Walmart, 97 cents each)
sewing machine and thread
scissors OR rotary cutter and mat
ruler/cutting ruler
14” pillow form OR Poly-Fil
Step 1: Cut your towels.
Cut one towel into a 15” square. Cut the other towel in half so that you have two pieces that are 15” x 12 1/2.”
Step 2: Stack your fabric.
Place the 15” square on the table, face up. Then, lay the halves of the second towel face down on top of it, overlapping each other in the center by about 3-4.” The finished edges should be the parts that overlap. The cut ends will extend past your bottom square.
Step 3: Pin and trim.
Pin all three layers together. Then, flip the whole thing over and trim off the excess fabric so that everything is 15” square.
Step 4: Sew around all 4 sides and turn.
Sew a 3/4” seam around the entire square. Clip the corners, then, use the opening where the back halves overlap to turn it right side out.
Now you should have a pillow cover with a solid front and an envelope back!
Step 5: Add pillow form or Poly-Fil.
Now your pillow is ready to use!
I love how differently these pillows turn out when you use a variety of towel designs. If you try this project, be sure to share your photos in the Amy Latta & Friends Facebook Group so we can all be inspired. See you there!
