Simple Spools Quilt – Free Pattern

Calling all quilters! Here is a fun, free pattern to celebrate all things sewing! Large spools in alternating directions feature “thread” made from your favorite fabrics. Finished quilt size is 78″x78″.

While, of course, you can use any fabric you like to create this quilt, I designed it specifically to feature my first fabric collection, Bloom and Sew. Like the quilt pattern, the fabric itself features whimsical spools, along with cheerful florals and looping threads in a soft pink, green, and blue color palette. You can learn more about the collection here and find a local quilt shop or online retailer selling it.

If you prefer to create this quilt with the help of a kit containing all the fabrics you’ll need (except for batting and backing), check out this Simple Spools Kit at My Favorite Quilt Store.

This pattern is ideal for quilters of all levels of experience, including confident beginners. The piecing is simple, and the quilt top comes together relatively quickly. For a smaller, simpler project, you can make less spool blocks and create a lap size throw, a wall hanging, or even a pillow made from a single block.
