Krylon Fall Mystery Box Challenge: Ravens Décor

mystery_box_stamp2

I don’t know about you, friends, but I love me a good challenge.  So, I was excited when the delivery man showed up at my doorstep with a Mystery Box from my friends at Krylon!  They sent me a variety of materials, including some wood cutouts and several cans of spray paint, and my job was to use them in creating some fabulous fall décor.  Here’s a peek at the contents of my box {this photo is actually borrowed from my friend Angie at The Country Chic Cottage because I was so excited to start creating that I forgot to take a pic first!}

Now, I like pumpkins and colorful leaves just as much as the next girl, but Fall here in the Artsy House means one thing…FOOTBALL!  So, I used my mystery supplies plus some others I had here in my stash to create décor that shows our love for our favorite team, the Baltimore Ravens!  Take a look…

To create the faux-chalkboard sign, first spray paint the entire thing with Gloss Rich Plum.  Once the sign is completely dry, tape/cover the part you want to stay purple, making sure the only exposed part is the center.  Spray with Gloss Black.  It’s that easy!  Of course, you’re going to want to write on your “chalkboard,” so I used a paint pen to create the message, “GO RAVENS.”

And what could possibly go better with my team sign than a Raven itself?  Sure, Krylon thought they sent me the cutout of a wooden owl…but there’s no stopping a determined Ravens fan!  I spray painted the owl’s tufts and the top of the head with my Gloss Plum.  The rest, of course, had to be painted black.  Then, I tied a little bow from the black and purple Halloween ribbon that came in my box and hot glued it right over those tufts.  So long, owl, hello, Raven!

To finish off the bird, I cut a triangle of yellow felt for her beak and glued it onto the wood, along with a pair of google eyes.  The final touch was defining the wings a bit.  Krylon makes a really nice metallic gold leafing marker {I used it on LC’s Cowabunga sign} that’s perfect for the job.

What do you think?  I’m loving it, and I’ve already gotten compliments from friends and family who have visited the house and seen it on display.  I also expect some teasing from my dad, who’s a Steelers fan, but I can take it!  This house is all ready for the official start of football season this Sunday!  Is yours?
