Metallic Stocking Ornament

Metallic Stocking Ornament

Friends, you know I’m all about DIY Christmas ornaments…in fact, I wrote the book on it {haha}! Yes, I know it’s only October, but I have to be ahead of the game so the inspiration is here for you when you’re ready to start your own holiday crafting, right? And let’s face it, most of us have more spare time right now than we will in November and December, so now’s a great time to make a few things and set them aside. Here is a super-simple ornament that’s fun and quick to make and your kids can help with too!

White paint pen
Black fine tip permanent marker
Mod Podge or glue

Step 1: Apply Metallic Lustre.
This is seriously my new favorite craft supply. It’s a metallic wax that gives just about any surface a gorgeous, vibrant metallic makeover. Little Crafter had a blast doing this step for me; he just dipped his finger into the pot of wax, then rubbed it all over the ornament to spread it out. Once the wax dries, which happens pretty quickly, you can buff it with a paper towel or soft cloth and make it really shine!

Step 2: Write your word of choice.
I used a white paint marker to write “Joy” on mine, but you can also do “Noel,” “Merry,” “Peace,” or anything else you like as long as there’s room on the ornament.

Step 3: Outline your word.
I wanted the text to really pop, so I traced around it using a very fine tip black permanent marker.

Step 4: Add glitter.
Naturally. Because glitter makes everything better! I used my finger {you can use a brush if you prefer} to spread a bit of Mod Podge across the top of the stocking, then sprinkled glitter onto it. I did this part outside. You’re welcome, honey.

Step 5: Tie on a ribbon.
When you apply the wax, it’s pretty hard to keep it all off the hanger. You can cover that up while adding a little extra pizazz with a sparkly bow! I used silver ribbon, but you can use any color you like.

I love the way it turned out and I can’t wait to hang it on our tree! In the meantime, I want to Metallic Lustre all the things…stay tuned for more projects coming soon.

What do you think? It would also be adorable with a friend or relative’s name written on it instead and used as a gift topper! Is this an ornament you’ll put on your holiday to-do list?
