Hand Lettered Monogram Canvas on Good Day PA

The life of a blogger and author isn’t always full of glamour.  More often than not, my workday is spent in my pajamas alongside my cat, and truthfully, this summer I’m too busy shuttling my boys to various activities to get any work done at all. Every now and then, though, I get to do something really cool, like talk about my art on television. Yesterday, I had the privilege of being a guest on Good Day PA to share about my books and give a live hand lettering demonstration.

Our project was a simple monogram canvas, and I walked the hosts Amy and Adis through creating their monograms using faux calligraphy. Despite the adventure of a randomly exploding marker, we still had a ton of fun!

I’d love for you to watch both segments, and it would be even better if you craft along with us. Here’s what you need to make this simple, inexpensive project.

Hand Lettered Monogram Canvas

Materials:

8×10 white canvas (or any size you prefer)

assorted permanent markers and/or paint pens

Creating Your Canvas:

All you need to do is practice your monogram letter, then draw it in the center of the canvas. We used the faux calligraphy technique, found in the first chapter of each of my books. Then, embellish your letter in any way you like. I drew a simple leafy vine over and under my “L.” You can’t go wrong (even if your pen explodes)!

Take a look at the segments and follow along with us to create your masterpiece.

Watch the segments here.

Thanks again to Good Day PA for having me on air; it was a blast! Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!
