Harry Potter Broomstick Party Favors

Believe it or not, my son Little Crafter is getting ready to celebrate his 11th birthday on Sunday! He was just two years old when I started blogging…I’m really not sure how time has flown so fast. This year, he is obsessed with Harry Potter and wanted to have a Wizarding World themed birthday party. Here’s a quick look at what we created as favors for his guests.

These cute little paper bag broomsticks are not my original idea; they’re floating around all over Pinterest, but we put our own spin on them with the hand lettered tags and what’s inside. Take a look!

Brown Paper Bags

Scissors

Pretzel Rods

Hemp Cord

Tag Punch {mine is Fiskars}

Marker/Pen (mine is a Tombow Fudenosuke)

Double Sided Antiqued Parchment Paper

Creating Harry Potter Broomstick Party Favors:

Step 1: Fold the bag so about 1/3 of it is sticking up. Cut along the fold to create thin strips.

You can leave as much or as little space between cut lines as you like.

Step 2: Trim the top 2″ of the  bag. Open the bag and fill it with your favors.

Little Crafter chose to use plastic Harry Potter glasses and HP house-themed pencils (both from the party section of Walmart). He also used his Rainbow Loom to create bracelets for each guest in the colors of their Hogwarts house.

Step 3: Place a pretzel rod in the bag and gather the top around the pretzel. Tie a piece of hemp cord tightly around it.

Step 4: Use the tag punch on the parchment paper or on another paper bag. Write each guest’s name on a tag and tie it onto a bag with the hemp cord.

I used a Tombow Fudenosuke and hand lettered each name in Brush Script. If you’re new to hand lettering and would like to give it a try, check out my faux calligraphy post, my beginner brush script post, or one of my books!

I think they’re just the cutest! You could also substitute a dowel or a stick from outside in place of the pretzel rods. I like how each one looks slightly unique, just like a real broom would be.

What do you think? Is there a Harry Potter fan in your life who would enjoy one of these little treat bags? You don’t have to wait for a party to create one! Fill it with popcorn, another snack, or a small gift for an unexpected surprise.
