Shamrock Canvas Art

Here’s a quick and easy way to add a festive touch to your home for St. Patrick’s Day! Make this Shamrock Canvas Art for your mantel, shelf, or wall. Crafters of all ages will enjoy this project, and it’s very inexpensive to create. Take a look:

You’ll need:

a blank canvas (mine is 8×10)

alcohol based markers in several shades of green (I used Tombow ABT PRO)

black permanent marker (I used Tombow MONOTwin)

optional: green glitter glue

Step 1: Draw 9 shamrock shapes using green markers.

To do this, I just drew three heart shapes going in different directions, with a stem at the bottom. I alternated shades of green to create visual interest.

Step 2: Use a black permanent marker to draw the shamrock shape over top of the green areas.

I did a double outline. Try not to exactly trace the green areas, but rather let it be more abstract.

Step 3: Optional – Use a brush or your finger to spread glitter glue inside the shamrocks.

Step 4: Optional – Write “lucky” or another message across the bottom.

I used the faux calligraphy technique for my word, which means I wrote it in script, then went back and thickened every spot where my pen was moving down. For a quick and easy tutorial on this style of lettering, check out my Faux Calligraphy post.
