Sneak Peek of New Plaid Products!

Hey, friends! I’m baaack! If you’ve been following along on Instagram and Facebook, you already know that I spent the last few days in Atlanta, Georgia for the Plaid Creators Summit.

At the beginning of the year, Plaid {the company behind Mod Podge, FolkArt, Bucilla, Apple Barrel, Fabric Creations, and more} chose 10 bloggers to be their Creator Team, and I was fortunate enough to be one of them. They brought us all to Atlanta for three days of fun touring their headquarters and playing with some brand new products that are coming soon to a craft store near you! We were welcomed with an adorable bag full of snacks and goodies, and a poster featuring all of our smiling faces.

We got to take a tour of the building, including the lab where the products are developed, the offices, and the creative spaces, then we spent the rest of the day in the Design Lab where we got to play with all kinds of exciting new things! Here’s a quick behind-the-scenes sneak peek at some of my favorites that I think you’re going to love!

FolkArt Painted Finishes

This brand new line allows you to create finishes that look just like moss, rust, concrete, and barn wood on a variety of surfaces.

These paints seriously blew me away because they look so realistic and were so easy to do! Look at this birdhouse I painted…it started out as plain, unfinished wood, and when I was finished it looked like a rustic wood birdhouse with a rusted metal roof and mossy growth sitting on concrete.

This project was seriously so simple to do; I can’t wait to give you a step by step tutorial soon! I am crazy about all four of these finishes, but if I had to pick a favorite, I think it would be the Barn Wood. It looks so rustic and I want to put it on everything now. These finishes are going to be available next month, May 2016, in craft stores.

FolkArt Ultra Dye

If you’ve ever wanted to dye something but hesitated because of the mess or the process, you are going to flip for this new line of dyes. The colors are so vivid and gorgeous, and they couldn’t be easier to work with.

You can use them on wood and any other natural fibers…think baskets, fabric, and more! They’re self sealing, so they won’t bleed, peel, or rub off. In fact, you can control the dye so well that you can even use it to stencil or to hand letter, like I did on the wooden frame I decorated. Of all the new products we played with, this was my absolute favorite. Ultra Dye will be available in stores in May 2016.

FolkArt Milk Paint

Milk paint is a fabulous choice when you’re going for a farmhouse chic look; it has the matte finish of chalk paint {and then some}, but is a little less opaque, allowing you to see the grain of the wood itself through the color. But, a lot of folks, myself included, are intimidated by the traditional method of mixing a powder. Plaid has come up with the first ever pre-mixed liquid milk paint that’s casein-based and ready to use right out of the bottle. It comes in a gorgeous color palette…I used Cottage Blue on a jewelry box project I’m looking forward to showing you soon! You can use it alone or paired with finishing oil, and it’ll be available in May!

Ultra Matte Chalk Finish Mod Podge

No trip to Plaid would be complete without Mod Podge! Not only did we play with it, we got to meet “Glossy” herself! How fun is that? One of the newest Mod Podge formulas on the market is the Ultra Matte Chalk Finish, and I hadn’t tried it yet. It seriously dries so totally matte that you’ll wonder if you forgot to put it on in the first place. You literally can’t see it at all, which blew my mind. This is actually available in stores now, so try it out!

All in all, we made seven projects, all of which I’ll be sharing with you in upcoming posts. I really think you’re going to be crazy about these new products too. They’re so simple and quick to use, which is just the way I like it. I can’t wait until you get to try them and can tell me about your favorites.
