It may seem like there’s not much to celebrate in 2020, but here’s one reason to party…July 31, 2020 would be Harry Potter’s 40th birthday! I’ve joined in with some of my favorite creative pals to celebrate this occasion by sharing Harry Potter themed craft projects. To start things off, I have a free hand-lettered cut file/printable for those of you who (like me) have a fondness for the Wizarding World and for coffee! It’s available in three different formats: JPG, SVG, and PNG. Use it for yourself or to make gifts for your HP-loving friends!
Click here to download the file.
If you simply want to print out the image and frame it, download the JPG file and print it using your favorite photo editing software or printing service. If you want to use it as a cut file, download the SVG (Cricut) or PNG (Silhouette) version and load it into your cutting machine’s software. Then, you can use it to make all kinds of projects, like I did!
T-SHIRT
First, I opened the file in Cricut Design Space and sized it to fit my t-shirt. 9.5″ is usually a great width for a ladies’ tee. Then, I set my Cricut Explore Air 2 to cut the image from Heat Transfer Vinyl, making sure to check the box labeled “mirror image.” After the design was cut, I weeded it, which means I peeled away all of the vinyl that wasn’t part of the design. Finally, I placed it on top of my t-shirt and used the Cricut EasyPress to apply heat and set the vinyl.
TRAVEL MUG
To create this travel mug, I measured and sized my design to 3.5″. Then, I set my Cricut Explore Air 2 to cut the design from permanent gold vinyl. I applied transfer tape to help me move the entire design as one piece, then adhered it to my mug. For a step-by-step look at how this process works, check out this post.
You can also use these same basic steps to personalize a pillow, a hat, shoes, or just about anything else you like. Feel free to use the file for your own personal projects; I’d love to see what you create! Be sure to share your projects with us in the Amy Latta & Friends Facebook Group so we can all be inspired and celebrate Harry Potter’s 40th birthday together!
