DIY At-Home Mid Mod Mugs

Friends, I am SO excited to bring you my latest hand lettering off the page adventure and invite you to join me in creating your own set of Mid Mod Mugs from the comfort of your own home!

This year, we are all looking for fun things we can still do even when it seems like most recreational activities are closed or limited for a while. I’ve been disappointed not to be able to offer in-person lettering and craft workshops for the past 10 months, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still do a project together! I’ve teamed up with DIY Pro Studios to bring you a very special class you can participate in from home whenever it’s convenient for you, either by yourself, or with a spouse, kiddo, or best friend.

In this class, I’ll walk you through from start to finish how to create a pair of hand lettered mugs with Midcentury Modern design elements. To make it extra-special, I’ve created an original set of sticker-stencils for you to use. You’ll get the words “let it snow,” “let it snow,” “Mr.,” “Mrs.,” “mine,” and “yours.” Choose your favorites for your mugs and save the extras for a future project!

I’ve also included a variety of hand drawn embellishment sticker stencils like stars, dots, and diamonds that you can use wherever and however you like to decorate your mugs. They’re super-simple to use, and in the class, I will walk you through the process every step of the way.

So how do you get the sticker-stencils and other supplies? These are kiln-fired mugs, which means they require special glazes that aren’t available online or in regular craft stores. It also means you need to get them fired in an actual kiln when they’re done…that’s where my friends at DIY Pro Studios come in! DIY Pro Studios is a network of paint-your-own-pottery stores all across the USA. They’re partnering with me for this special project (and hopefully more to come!) to provide you with everything you need. Here’s how it works. First, head to their website and locate a participating DIY Pro Studio near you.

Then, head to that shop to pick up your kit! It will contain literally everything you need, including a link to the class that you can watch whenever you like, a pair of unpainted bisque mugs, the sticker stencils, the glaze, brushes, and more. When you’re ready, sit down with your kit and craft along with me in the video (you can pause, go back, and replay since it’s not live). When you’re finished, return the painted mugs to the DIY Pro Shop where the staff will kiln-fire them for you. Then they’ll be shiny, food-safe, and fabulous; ready to use for your favorite winter beverage!

This kit/class is certainly something fun and new you can do yourself, and it also makes a great gift in more ways than one. First, if you need a last minute Christmas gift, this class makes a great “experience” gift! If you have time to pick up the kit, you can wrap it up and put it under the tree for someone crafty, or if not, you can give them an IOU with a link to the site, then purchase the physical kit for them at your convenience. Gift it as a shared experience with you, or as something for them to do on their own. Also, the finished mugs can make a great gift later…buy yourself the kit, then give one or both mugs as a birthday, Valentine’s Day, or Thinking of You gift. But if you’re like me, you’re going to want to keep them for yourself…;) Maybe two kits are in order.

I hope you are as excited about this project as I am! Now, head on over to DIYProStudios.com and find yourself a local studio where you can grab your kit and get started! This class is only available for a limited time, so grab it while you can. I can’t wait to teach you how to work with bisque, and to see what you create!
