How to Make Felt Popsicle Keychains

These are really simple to create, and only require a few basic supplies.

Materials

  • felt (assorted colors plus white and brown)
  • scissors
  • sewing machine (or needle and thread)
  • Poly-Fil
  • fabric paint (assorted colors)
  • ribbon
  • key ring

Instructions

  1. Cut your felt.
For each popsicle, cut two identical shapes from your choice of colored felt, and one stick shape from brown felt.

2. Make a ribbon loop.
Take your ribbon or string and cut a 2” piece. Fold it in half and glue the ends together to form a loop.

3. Sew around the edges.
Place the two colored shapes on top of each other, with the ribbon loop in between. The loop should extend out from the center of the top. Sew (or glue) around the outside edges, leaving the bottom open.

4. Add Poly-Fil.
Lightly stuff the popsicle top with Poly-Fil to add dimension.

5. Add stick and sew shut.
Slide the brown felt piece inside, then sew across the bottom edge. If you like, you can leave your popsicle as is and add your key ring. Or, you can move to the next step to add more decoration.

6. Add toppings (optional).
Cut a piece of white felt that’s about 1/3 of the size of your popsicle, with a wavy line at the bottom, and glue it on top. Then, use fabric paint to create colorful sprinkles.

Personalizing your Felt Popsicles

  • Try using a wooden popsicle stick cut in half instead of the felt stick piece.
  • Use patterned/multi-colored felt for a different effect.
  • Add google eyes and use fabric paint to give your popsicle a face.
  • Try other toppings, like adding a felt cherry on top!

You can easily do the stitching by hand.
