Fabric and Felt Bookmark
Make an adorable bookmark for yourself or as a gift using your favorite fabric scraps and some coordinating felt!

How to Make Fabric and Felt Bookmarks
These bookmarks are very simple to create using just a few basic supplies. I did use a sewing machine to sew my pieces together, but if you don’t have one, you can easily hand stitch instead, or just let the fusible adhesive hold them without any stitches.
Materials
- Fabric scrap (larger than 2” x 7”)
- Felt (2 1/2” x 7 1/2”) plus embellishments
- Fusible adhesive
- Pinking shears
- Pencil or heat-erasable pen

Instructions
Iron a fusible interfacing to a scrap of fabric, then cut the fabric into a 2” x 7” rectangle.
Trim the bottom corners at 45 degree angles to form a point in the center.
Tip: I like to draw lines using a heat-erasable pen and a ruler, then cut along those lines.
Cut a 2 1/2” x 7 1/2” rectangle from felt and form the same kind of point at the bottom.
Peel off the fusible adhesive backing and place the fabric piece in the center of the felt piece. Iron in place.
Sew around the edges of the fabric shape.
I sewed approximately 1/8” from the edges of the fabric, going around the shape several times. I used my sewing machine, but you could also choose to do this by hand.
Iron fusible adhesive to the back of a scrap of felt, then cut out any shape you like (I chose a heart).
This part is optional – you can also leave your bookmark as-is with just the fabric strip and felt backing if you prefer.
Iron the shape on top of the bookmark, then stitch around it several times.
Use pinking shears to cut a zig-zag edge around the edges of the background felt.

Crafting Tips
- Every combination of fabric and felt will look unique, so have fun experimenting with colors and patterns.
- Feel free to add a button or a tassel to make your bookmark even more “you”!
- No pinking shears? No problem! Just leave your edges straight for a sleek, modern look.
