It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day, which means now is the perfect time to create a little bit of festive art! Whether you want to make a canvas for your wall or a few cards for your friends, here are a few quick and easy doodles you can use. Each one only takes a few simple steps and you’ll be drawing them like a pro in no time. Combine them with your hand lettering to make your own seasonal art, or download my free printable and pop it in a frame to make your home leprechaun ready!
Start by drawing a basic heart shape. Then, add a sideways heart shape on either side. Finally, create a stem by drawing a long, thin triangle at the bottom. I like to curve mine off to one side, but you can do it any way you like. Color it green, and you’re ready to go!
If you want to take your shamrock to the next level, there are countless ways to embellish it! Patterns like stripes, polka dots, and swirls are always a fun touch, and you can play around with colors to get different effects. Here are a few examples to get you started…
First, you’ll draw two vertical lines that are slightly closer together at the bottom than at the top. Connect them with a curving line. Next, connect the bottom of the hat by drawing a curving line that extends out to the sides as shown in the second image. Draw two horizontal lines, one just above the brim and one slightly higher to form the band. Inside the band, two vertical lines and one short horizontal one make the image of a buckle. All that’s left to do is add color, and your hat is ready for any festive leprechaun who comes along.
Flag of Ireland
Start by drawing two slightly wavy horizontal lines. Connect them on both ends with vertical lines, then draw two more vertical lines to divide the flag into thirds. Finally, draw a long thin stick on the left. The left portion of the flag is green, the center is white, and the right portion is orange.
See? It’s easier than you think to create fun and festive doodles to celebrate St. Patty’s Day! I can’t wait to see yours and how you use them to embellish your own artwork.
