Today, I wanted to share with you one of the gifts I’m giving my mom for Mother’s Day this year. I started with a kit from CraftCuts, then personalized it using my mom’s favorite colors. CraftCuts has a ton of wood projects to choose from for all kinds of occasions. Here’s how I used this kit and made it my own.
You’ll need:
MOM I Love You Mother’s Day Kit
acrylic/multi-surface paint in your choice of colors
paintbrush
hot glue gun and glue sticks
Mod Podge
magnets, string, or other hanger
Step 1: Paint your words.
I recommend covering your work surface with newspaper or a paper bag.
I chose to make the “mom” piece a light teal, and the “love you” a darker shade of turquoise. One coat of paint was plenty to cover the light wood.
Let your words dry completely before moving on.
The kit includes the word “MOM,” the words, “i love you,” and a small heart. I chose not to use the “i,” but I did want to include the heart, which I painted white.
Step 2: Glue the script words on top of the print “Mom.”
You can position them in any way you like.
Step 3: Apply a coat of Mod Podge or other sealer.
You can use glossy, satin, matte, glitter, or whatever finish you like best.
Step 4: Add a hanger.
You can add a hook, magnets, string, ribbon, or whatever type of hanger you like best to make the project truly unique. Another idea is to add a piece of twine under the words where you can clip photos.
Of course, you can also personalize your project by painting it in different colors, using wood stain in place of paint, or even covering the letters with photos or scrapbook paper and Mod Podge. There are tons of ways to really make this project your own, something the mother figure in your life will surely love!
