DIY Gumball Machine Halloween Costume

No tricks here, just sweet treats! If you’re looking for a super-simple, inexpensive DIY Halloween costume idea, here’s how you can become a bubble gum machine with the help of some pom poms and hot glue.

You’ll need:

a white shirt

1.5″ pom poms (approx. 150-200, depending on shirt size)

hot glue gun and glue sticks

red pants or skirt

plain colored ball cap

fabric marker or Cricut machine and infusible ink/vinyl

optional: eye pins, needle nose pliers, ear wires for earrings

Creating the Shirt

Place cardboard inside your shirt so the glue doesn’t go through. Use hot glue to attach pom poms all over the shirt front. Keep in mind that if you plan to tuck the shirt into your pants/skirt, you won’t want to put any pom poms on the bottom section.

Creating the Hat

I used my Cricut Maker 3 to cut the 25 cent image from black infusible ink. Then, I applied it using heat with the Cricut Hat Press. If you don’t have those tools, just draw/write your own 25 cent image using a black fabric marker!

Creating the Earrings

I threaded a pom pom onto an eye pin, then gently tugged so that the loop at the bottom disappeared into the fluff. I formed a wire loop at the top, attached an ear wire, and voila! Bubble gum earrings.

I love how simple it is to create this costume, and the only supplies I purchased were the pom poms! Everything else was already in my closet or my craft stash. I’m a huge fan of quick, cheap, and easy projects, and this one is all three.
