Countdown to Christmas Ornament: If I Only Had Christmas
Hallmark Channel’s “queen of Christmas,” (and one of my personal favorites) Candace Cameron Bure, stars with Warren Christie in the premiere of If I Only Had Christmas. Candace plays a cheerful publicist who teams up with a cynical VP and his team to help a charity in need at the holidays. But there’s much more to the story! Fans of the classic movie The Wizard of Oz will enjoy finding all the references to that movie packed inside of this one. (Find out more about the movie here!)
The ornament for this movie, without a doubt, had to pay tribute to The Wizard of Oz as well as to If I Only Had Christmas. I decided to focus on the famous ruby slippers, which are glittery red heels in this film, and the classic line, “There’s no place like home.” Here’s how I did it and you can too!
NO PLACE LIKE HOME ORNAMENT
You’ll need:
wooden ornament (mine was a pre-painted wooden star)
permanent vinyl, red
Cricut Joy machine OR scissors
permanent marker (I used a Tombow Monotwin)
pencil and eraser
glue
small paintbrush
red glitter
Step 1: Cut a red high heel shape from vinyl and adhere it to your ornament.
If you have an electronic cutting machine, by all means, use it! If not, you can trace or freehand the shoe shape and cut it out with scissors.
Step 2: Pencil in your words around the shoe. Then, trace them with permanent marker and erase any remaining pencil lines.
I used the Faux Calligraphy technique, which means writing in script, then going back and thickening the downstrokes (anywhere your pen was moving down while writing each letter). For a full and super-simple tutorial on how to do this, check out my Basic Hand Lettering post! You’ll be mastering it in no time, promise!
Step 3: Apply glue to the shoe shape only, then sprinkle with red glitter.
I like to do this over a piece of scrap paper. Shake off the excess, then you can easily funnel the extra glitter back into the container and clean up the mess.
That’s it! Time to hang your ornament on the tree to remind you of both of these fabulous movies!
