Countdown to Christmas Ornament: Chateau Christmas

As a musician myself, I’m really excited about the second movie premiere in Hallmark’s 2020 Countdown to Christmas. It’s called Chateau Christmas, and it stars Merritt Patterson as Margot, a concert pianist who has lost her inspiration. When she returns to the Chateau to spend Christmas with her family, her ex-boyfriend Jackson (played by Luke Macfarlane) convinces her to headline the Christmas concert in the hopes of helping her rediscover her passion for music and perhaps for him too. (See a trailer and find lots more info about Chateau Christmas here!)

PS. Fun trivia…Luke Macfarlane actually studied at Juilliard and plays classical cello, so he is actually playing the instrument in the movie!

Since the movie has such a major musical theme, this Sheet Music Ornament seemed like the perfect tie-in, don’t you think? Here’s how to create this pretty, elegant ornament for your tree.

You’ll need:

round ornament (mine was clear plastic)

Mod Podge Glossy or Glitter formula

Paint brush

Sheet music and/or lyrics for the song of your choice

Ribbon

Scissors

STEP 1: Gently tear your sheet music and lyrics into small pieces.
Pro tip: Ripping toward yourself will give you neater edges! A quick online search for free piano sheet music will give you all kinds of results to choose from and print.
STEP 2: Remove ornament topper and apply Mod Podge onto the ornament.  Begin layering your sheet music on top.
Smaller pieces are better so they don’t get too wrinkly. Remember, your goal is to fully cover the ornament, so let the pieces overlap one another.

Continue until the entire ball is covered with music.

STEP 3: Paint Mod Podge over entire surface of ornament to give it a glossy finish.

You can use Mod Podge Glossy or if you want the ornament to sparkle, Mod Podge Glitter formula gives it that extra shine. Let it dry completely. I suggest placing the ornament down over a pencil, a ring mandrel, or something similar while it dries so that none of the wet areas are touching anything.

STEP 4: Place the ornament cap back on top and add a ribbon bow.

I chose a red polka dot ribbon, but you can use whatever you like to coordinate with your Christmas decor! Just tie the ribbon around the cap and make a bow.

That’s all there is to it! What do you think? I love the way this turned out, and I think that Margot and Jackson would too. The best part is that you can totally customize it by choosing your favorite song(s). I’d love to see how yours turns out. Be sure to share your project photos with us in the Amy Latta & Friends Facebook Group so we can all be inspired.

If you like this project, be sure to save it to Pinterest and tell a friend. Also, don’t miss yesterday’s Jingle Bell Bride ornament, and the rest of these ornaments from the 2020 Countdown to Christmas on Hallmark Channel!
